Raven is growing up so fast. This year (sophomore year) she has met a fun group of kids through her Performance Art class. And she loves everything about it!
So you can see she dyed her hair a deep purple….Raven did this herself and she loves her new hair too.
We’re thrilled to say our little bird is having a great time this school year. She has friends, a phone, hang-out time, and it’s really all she has ever wanted. We love watching her flitter around the house, chatting non-stop about something one of her friends said, or retell a funny thing that happened during class.
In less than a moth, she is going to bed 15 yrs. old, so Jon and I have given her a little more independence. She is allowed to take the bus once in a while (we know the bus staff, and they watch Raven like a hawk), and she is allowed to babysit Evangeline a little more.
They all have to grow up sometime, and Raven is no different.
She is growing into such a responsible, intelligent, beautiful young lady. Her father and I couldn’t be more proud.
I decided to change the look of the blog. Evangeline isn’t an infant anymore. She’s a full-blown active toddler and the “baby” theme really didn’t fit anymore. I’m not sure if I will keep this theme: it’s free, and I am pretty cheap when it comes to my blog appearance. HA! Let’s just say I’m trying it out for now.
Speaking trying things out, Raven decided to dye her hair DEEP PLUM. It doesn’t show very well in this picture (horrible phone camera), but her hair really is a dark purple now. She has found a group of friends to hang out with through school, and every one of these kids have an unnatural hair color. Twice a week she meets up with them for PA, and then they go to a local burger joint to hang out. Here’s a picture taken this past Friday at the beach. We had some time to kill while Lenore was in her guitar lesson. Raven has never been happier, and it’s a wonderful thing to see. She has friends, purple hair, and a phone.
Evangeline loved our Friday beach romp.
She managed to get sand in new and exciting places, but it was a fun morning. Kailua beach was very calm, and not as crowded as I had expected for a Friday. Granted it was still pretty early in the day…..(apologies for the rough pictures…again this is from the phone).
So I hope you like the changes. Friday and Saturday were a whirlwind of activities. Alex had a band function at school yesterday, Lenore is currently on the North Shore for a sleep-over, surrounded by friends, horses and surfing. And Jon and I managed to squeeze in a mini-date. Have a great week!
Busy day today. In a few hours, we’re heading to guitar lessons, performance art, and the grocery store. It’s been a long week, and it looks as though it will be a long day because we will have to deal with the Friday traffic. 😉
Lenore has another performance coming up in a few weeks, and her teacher wants her to learn “Diary of a Madman”. It took her a couple of days to get as far as the clip shows, but as I type this she now knows the entire opening riff. Of course there is much more to learn.
I remember the first time we had introduced Hobbes to Evangeline. This project had taken me many months, as all of the stripes are hand stitched. I really didn’t think I would finish by Christmas (and I was right).
But about a week or so after the holidays, I managed to get the last button eye sewn in place and we were able to have this moment above.
Obviously things have changed, Evangeline is older but her love for Hobbes is as strong as ever.
This guy has been through every bedtime, nap, sickness, car ride and adventure she dreams up. Hobbes is her “Go To” guy.
He’s looking a little worn, and I did have to replace a button eye once. But other than that, he is holding up wonderfully. Below are some pictures of the adorable duo, and a couple of shots of Evangeline with my phone. Enjoy.
So we started school again. Last week was the first official week, and it was brutal. Alex is back to the grind, only this year he is an upperclassman. He’s making the grades, involved in cross-country and doing great.
Raven started her sophomore year. She really is taking off this year, completing her assignments days before they are due. I hope she can keep up this momentum. In addition to her school work, she is enrolled in Performance Arts through the school. It meets twice a week and she loves the other kids. Really, it’s nice to have her around other teens.
In addition to school, she’s still hanging out with the bunnies.
Lenore has jumped right back into school (Grade 5), and swimming. Before we moved to the new house, Lenore was training to join a competitive swim team. She was pretty good. However, the first year in the house was a huge adjustment with school and guitar-so swimming was put on hold.
It’s been a year since she has had a decent swim practice (surfing and playing in the ocean don’t count). Last week she started up in competitive swim training again with a coach, and it’s fair to say she was a bit rusty. She managed to hold her own for the class, but she was exhausted at the end.
However, this week Lenore has seemed to bounce back to her old self. She will improve as the weeks go by. I can’t wait to watch her improve.
Evangeline is growing, and learning new words every day. One of her favorite things to do is go with Lenore to the pool. She doesn’t swim (no classes for her at this time), but she does enjoy the strawberry slushie and soft pretzels.
AND Lenore has managed to memorize all the tab for the solo from “The Beast And The Harlot”. She still has to work on rhythm, timing, and speed, but she’s doing remarkably well for the short amount of time she has been working on it. In time, her teacher will help her with the technique, so this will only get better.
Here’s a sneak preview of what she has accomplished so far. * Sh knows that last part has to be played twice…she only did it once.
I should be able to update more now that I have more computer time.
